[info]otempora42 had kind of a bad day today, so I promised her I'd post this.

Backstory: my film production class requires us to write reviews of five movies we haven't seen before this semester, a fact I pretty much just remembered this weekend. Anyway, one of the films I chose to watch was Undercover Brother, this really crazy Austin Powers/black power type movie featuring Neil Patrick Harris as the token white guy. Sadly, NPH did not end up in my final review, but I figured Otemps would want to read it anyway, seeing as it's always fun to read something academic about something completely dumb and hilarious.

the title character, for example, dresses in a highly colorful disco getup complete with an enormous Afro... )

Well, that was fun. Plus, now I only have two more movies to watch and review! I am SO getting to sleep tonight! =D

So seeing as this is the EMMYS, hosted by NEIL, and is supposed to have a DR. HORRIBLE-themed musical number, this is going to be pretty much the most legendary night of television ever. Hopefully. Which, of course, calls for a stream-of-consciousness liveblog where I ramble about all the results, as they happen, in real time!

Please don't judge me for some of the things I wrote in here. I literally wrote the first things that came to mind.

Emmy ramblings (and I do mean ramblings) under the cut... )

And thus ends another night of me not being productive. I should really try to get some homework done before I pass out again.

Yeah, so... I was really bored at work today, and my computer here has photoshop. Soooo... I whipped up a batch of Neil icons using those new photos that came out today as bases!

I'm not very good at making icons, so please be gentle with me. And make sure you credit me if you take any! =D

Total Icon Count: 9

Teasers:

TEASER! Icon 003 TEASER! Icon 005 TEASER! Icon 007

So Neil's officially hosting the Emmys, which I already knew, but check out the statement he made about it:

“I'm looking forward to the challenge of the show – adding my own voice to it, while honoring the nominees and the entire year in television. But which voice to choose? I'm torn between gangsta, foppish brit, and robot. Really proud of my robot. We'll see what happens on the night.”

Oh Neil. Do you not know what you do to my brain every time you give me these little shoutouts*? asjdfklasdjfklsdajklf;asdl.

*It's totally a shoutout, so shut up.

Anyway! The Legendary Awards are now voting for HIMYM fanfiction, which I not only help run, but also got a bunch of nominations for!! Eeeeeeeee!!! I'm competing against myself in a few categories, which is odd, but also kind of exciting! (And if only I could stop myself from stalking the results page, maybe I'd be able to sleep at night.)

My fics up for awards are *drumroll*: Shot Through the Heart (best humor), The Ted Show (best humor), Letting it Out (best episode follow-up and best minor character), and The Journey (best Ted). I'm also a contributor to the Afterdeath (best AU and best long multichapter) and Valentine/Barely Coping (also best AU and best long multichapter) universes. (I got honorable mentions for my Memento Mori theory and for participating in the HIMYM roleplay, as well.)

Voting ballots are here:

Part One
Part Two

Good luck to everyone on my flist who was nominated!! This year, as Christian Siriano might say, the competition's going to be fierce. =P And a huge thank-you to those that nominated me! =)

In other news, my zombie plant is dying again. Sigh. I really wish it'd stop doing that.

So today, rather than be a responsible college student and do and write up my phenomenological experiment (which is due tomorrow and still isn't done), I decided to have an NPH-a-thon by watching Clara's Heart, The Wedding Dress, and... American Idol?!

Only one more week until Flight of the Conchords comes back, can you believe it?! Here's this week's video (and I can't believe I haven't already posted this one):

Sorry if anyone on my flist is annoyed by these and screams "Phoenix, enough already!!" every time a new video appears. This is my way to help myself remember to watch the show, once it comes back on. In seven days and 32 minutes.

Golden Globes spoilers... )

Well, a semi-rant, anyway. )

I've gone cross-eyed from working on graphics all day. And I had the duty phone which would NOT STOP RINGING. Seriously, people only ever get locked out of their rooms when I'm on duty. It's a conspiracy, I tell you.

The Horrible DVD FINALLY came in my mail today. *cheers ecstatically* And oh man, is it awesome.

Songs can hurt like a fist. )

My winter term class (called gender issues in cinema) looks like it's going to be interesting AND easy. Awesome combination, right? Half of it is sitting there and watching movies, there aren't a lot of readings, and there isn't a lot of writing to do either! (Just 2-page papers every week, and the final paper is 6 pages. After my cinema class with the 25-page paper from hell, this is going to ROCK!) So far we've watched a John Wayne movie and Fatal Attraction (the latter to show us what "garbage" is; we watched it today and oh MAN, was it bad. Poor Glenn Close.). Plus, it's in the afternoon, so I get to sleep late every day! So much love for this class already. (And it started on Tuesday.)

Ooh, and yesterday I got [info]dozmuffinxc's Christmas card, and she included a completely unexpected doodle of Dr. Horrible in it! She said she decided to finally watch it after hearing me blab about it so much. Yay! =) It took a prominent place in the collage of awesome that hangs over my bed. I thanked her for the card over the phone, but when I got it the only thought in my head was "This is totally going in my blog!" So here it is. (I know I'm pathetic.)

Now if only I can convert Mama "Dr. What?" Phoenix. Mwahahaa. She has no idea what she's in for.

Final note: I'm now addicted to Ninja Ropes. And while we're speaking of impressive feats among the Dr. Horrible cast: how the hell did Nathan Fillion get 119.7 yards on that thing?! The best I've gotten so far is like 60, and that was, like, a miracle. The freaking ninja keeps flying off into space. Mr. Fillion, I take my hat off to you. (takes off invisible hat)

To commemorate the new year (which doesn't start until next week, but whatev), I'm going to compile a list of the 10 best things I saw, heard, or discovered this year. This, perhaps, is going to be the ultimate fangirly post. Because I saw, heard, and discovered a LOT of really amazing stuff this year. Let's see if I can narrow it down to just 10!

Because the Dr. Horrible soundtrack FINALLY came out!!!!! Life is good. Or, at least it was, until classes started, approximately 1/2 an hour after I got the Dr. Horrible soundtrack. Ugh. But hey, those little tracks were all I needed to make my entire week! (And I do mean little. The songs aren't very long. But they don't need to be, imo!) For the (possible 3 of you?) that read this and haven't yet seen Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog... um, what's wrong with you?!? Come see me after class! =)

In other news, I made a collage of awesome. It took me like six hours I didn't have and all my color ink is now gone. But it's AMAZING! And I realized after the fact that NPH is in it the most, since I have like 5 from HIMYM and 2 or 3 Dr. Horribles. But I can't help it! He's just that amazing, and that deserving of a big swath of my collage of awesome.

In other other news, it's getting harder and harder to find enough time to sleep. I honestly can't remember the last time I got as much sleep as I wanted to. Oh wait, yes I can. Because last night I was really good! But before that I was working practically right up until I went to bed, an hour or two after I had meant to. And I was doing so well with this RA job before school actually started! =P

Um... that's all I've got. Not much time to write anything else, to be honest. No big pop culture news that's making me squee inappropriately. But I think I'll just say that this season of Project Runway makes me sad, because of how boring it is and how untalented the contestants are. So I guess I'll just say... 16 days to HIMYM, 19 to The Office, and... too many to Lost! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to watch Singin' in the Rain! =)

So even though I've had this LiveJournal for like... ever... I just now decided to start using it. "But why?" the rational part of my brain is saying. "Don't you procrastinate enough as it is?" Well, yes, rational part of Meg's brain, that is true. But! I'm making a New School Year Resolution to be less procrastinatey! Or at least, I just decided to. We'll see how that goes. Plus, this is good practice for writing stuff and whatever, since I've managed to convince myself over the summer that I suck at writing, since I've failed to write anything. We won't call this "procrastinating," Rational Part of Meg's Brain. We'll call it "training".

"Whatever," says Rational Part of Meg's Brain. "I'm going to go get some whole-wheat Goldfish. Ah, deliciousness."

Ah, schizophrenia.

My life! So, we went to the beach last week, which is where I am now as I post this. At 12:30 at night. And probably tomorrow I'll be heading back to Elon (yay!) to start my RA training (yay?). But I'm going to miss this house. It was kind of awesome, even if it was infested with ants. The weather was good though, except for today when it rained a lot and was generally gross. Plus, I am kind of in love with the beach. Even when I wasn't actually there, I would go up on the highest deck of the house, where you could just barely see the ocean, and just stand out there for hours listening to the waves. Sure, I could have walked a block and actually walked on the beach, but that would require cutting me off from How I Met Your Mother!

Yes, HIMYM is my new discovery, thanks to NPH, another new discovery of mine thanks to... wait for it... procrastination! (AKA, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. I would have a separate entry singing the praises of this thing, but it's a month late. But keep your eyes peeled for any sly references to this 40-minute web opus! Or, you know, a celebration of the one-month anniversary/my whining "When is the soundtrack coming ouuuuuuuuuut??????")

Anyway, on this beach trip (curse you, wireless internet!), I've spent a little too much time watching my favorite episodes of HIMYM and holing myself up in my room, to the point where my mom got all worried and was all "Is something wrong? Are you depressed? Is that why you keep barricading yourself in your room and avoiding us all?" And thanks to the College Alc course I was forced to take (AGAIN), I started to recognize the signs of addiction. Only I'm addicted to Neil Patrick Harris instead of alcohol. Sigh. I even resorted to watching old episodes of Doogie Howser to get my fix. It didn't work so well, mainly because I was distracted by his squeaky little voice. And then it was all, "Awww, cutie! I wonder which season his voice deepens in/when he goes blond?" Needless to say, I have a talent crush on this wonderful man, and am SO sad that he's gay.

Anyway, I'm sure you don't want to read all about how much Barney and Robin make me squee (because they do! Squee!) Ahem. Sorry about that. I will save the squee for another entry, peppering it into a well-thought out dissertation on how good NPH looks in suits. Nah, just kidding. I'll probably be writing about HIMYM a lot in this blog/journal/whatever the hell it is. I'll just save it for a different post. I might even do episode recaps! But don't worry: I'll talk about lots of stuff in this here pop-culture blog. In fact, coming up soon will probably be my angry screaming about how Warner Bros. postponed the HBP movie until NEXT JULY! I MEAN WTF IS THEIR PROBL- heh, that was a warm-up. Don't worry though, I'll refrain from the all-caps. But there will be anger. Ohhh, there will be.

Lastly, I would love to know if anyone reads this, or is at all interested in what I have to say. So leave me a comment, or something. Peace out!
