[info]otempora42 had kind of a bad day today, so I promised her I'd post this.

Backstory: my film production class requires us to write reviews of five movies we haven't seen before this semester, a fact I pretty much just remembered this weekend. Anyway, one of the films I chose to watch was Undercover Brother, this really crazy Austin Powers/black power type movie featuring Neil Patrick Harris as the token white guy. Sadly, NPH did not end up in my final review, but I figured Otemps would want to read it anyway, seeing as it's always fun to read something academic about something completely dumb and hilarious.

the title character, for example, dresses in a highly colorful disco getup complete with an enormous Afro... )

Well, that was fun. Plus, now I only have two more movies to watch and review! I am SO getting to sleep tonight! =D

Yes, another new one. I'm probably going to be testing some out for the next while, but for now this is the one I'm sticking with. The layout's kind of boring right now, but the best part by far is the BANNER!!!!!! Which I totally made myself, and which I totally did not make on my work computer in Photoshop while on company time. (Don't worry, it didn't take up THAT much time.) But it's awesome!!

Movie talk: mainly Angels and Demons! )

Going to sleep sometime soon, hopefully. Have to be up for work in 3.5 hours.

Don't worry, any film spoilers will be put under a cut. =)

So last night, I drove allllll the way out to Annapolis to see Harry Potter 6 at midnight with my friend Kelly! I'd never done a midnight screening before, but this one was definitely a blast. There were tons of people there, and the theater had free face painting and Borders had a table set up where you could buy HP merchandise. But the thing is, they never told us when we could actually go into the theater and take our seats, so by the time we finally walked in at quarter to 11 most of the theaters were completely full. Luckily we managed to find two decent seats in the very last theater we tried, but I was still disappointed. They were NOT organized enough. Communication FAIL. =P

Oh, and quick storytime:

So me and Kelly were dressed up, kind of, in Harry Potter shirts, and she had a cloak and I had a witch's hat. And we were sitting kind of off to the side behind all these cordons (because we thought that's where the line was going to be), and this guy (who looked like he was about 13) walks up to the rope and is all "You guys seeing Harry Potter?" I said yeah, we were, because DUH, while Kelly was sarcastic and said we weren't. So the guy (who I will refer to as Jackass) walks away, then comes back five minutes later, asking "You guys sure you aren't seeing Harry Potter?" then leaving, giggling like the Jackass he is. So me and Kelly are sitting there like "WTF?" because it's not like we were the only people who had dressed up, or even the people with the most elaborate costumes or anything. Anyway, then Jackass comes back AGAIN with this Jackassy grin on his face, asking, "Okay. Are you guys SURE you're not seeing Harry Po--" So I whip the hat off my head (revealing my dreadful hat hair, no doubt) and calmly (okay, not that calmly), from my spot on the ground, tell Jackass to go fuck himself. Jackass sprints away and we don't see him for the rest of the night. =D Plus, there was mall security around where we were sitting a little while later! Might have been a crazy happenstance, but I prefer to think it wasn't. I've heard I'm scarier than I give myself credit for. ^_^

So after that thrilling adventure, then we saw the movie...

Half Blood Prince movie spoilers under the cut! )

Typical. First official post of the summer, and it's me stressing out about something.

Cut for lengthy rant and summer summary... )

Wow, it's been a while since I had an update. And I just noticed how bitchy my last couple of posts have been. I don't like being bitchy. I'm going to make a concerted effort not to whine about things in this post... we'll see how well that goes. Haha.

You're Amish! You can't fight back... 'cause you're Amish! I mock you with my ice cream cone, Amish guy! )

Oh, and on a scale of 1 to douche, how pretentious does my current music selection make me sound? =)

First up, stolen from a lot of people: the marry-shag-cliff meme!

[info]idioticonion gave me the following choices:

Bret from Flight of the Conchords
Ned from Pushing Daisies
Billy/Dr. Horrible

My answers! )

And this one from [info]rps_lizardspock:

Guess the movie quote! )

I saw I Love You, Man today, and it was hilarious! I love Jason Segel so friggin' much. And Paul Rudd's character was so sweet. It was weird though, because it was the first time I've ever seen a movie by myself... kind of awkward going into the theater alone. It was completely empty, too. Kind of an odd experience.

I mean... did? This afternoon (finally)? The grammar in this title is confusing me...

My take on Watchmen! )

This weekend's been insane... I haven't had any time to do anything on my list yet. And I just keep adding more and more to it too... ugh.

Because I've watched quite a bit of new stuff recently that deserves to go in my blog. And also, I really, really don't feel like revising my script. But when have I ever?

Hang on, stop the track--Eugene, stop the track! )

Lastly, like many other people on my flist, I'm going to pimp this amazing How I Met Your Mother fic, Metal Heart, out to all of you who might have missed it. This story left me dead from the awesome, and, much like the rest of you, kind of made me want to give up writing forever. (Though I don't think that'd be much of a loss. =P) All of you on my flist who don't watch HIMYM should a) start and b) read this... it's fairly long (3 parts) and has a quite a bit of sex in it, but... it's incredible. Seriously.

Can't put it off any longer... Onto my script! =P

I'm excited. Are you excited?? I'm excited.

Obviously, Oscar spoilers below the cut. (And the cut text doesn't count as a spoiler, because Slumdog got like a bazillion nominations. And it and WALL-E are like the only two films I've seen that got any nominations, and WALL-E doesn't have any quotable lines. ...So there.)

So today, rather than be a responsible college student and do and write up my phenomenological experiment (which is due tomorrow and still isn't done), I decided to have an NPH-a-thon by watching Clara's Heart, The Wedding Dress, and... American Idol?!

So I'm watching the syndicated version of HIMYM that they're showing on Lifetime, and they show the following "HIMYM Moment" from Purple Giraffe during the commercials, completely reedited so the uninitiated will completely miss the point of both the show and the characters:

Ted: I threw all these parties for you. So I could see you.
Robin: Well, here I am.
Ted: There's something here! Unless I'm crazy?
Robin: You're not crazy. --snip-- Let's fall in love and get married and have kids and drive them to soccer practice!

Fail, Lifetime. Fail.

But at least they're showing Zip Zip Zip right now! =D

Anyway, I'm mid-essay writing, as usual. It's only Monday and I'm already behind on everything. My school's lame and still had classes today. And I'm really not looking forward to writing this narrative for nonfiction class. I wish I'd been able to come up with a less depressing topic for this one...

Oh! And I saw Slumdog Millionaire on Saturday as part of my birthday fiesta. It was really incredible. It honestly reduced my friend and me to wordlessness for a while there, and the only thing we could say was "wow" back and forth for about five minutes. It's just an incredibly powerful story with a really original idea behind it, really well-acted with rich characters, and the ending is so cathartic. I was actually shouting at the screen in the middle of the theatre, which is something I never do, at least not in public. And I loved that it gave an unflinching description of life in the slums without being overly preachy. If I were still in Global, I'm sure we'd be watching that movie because it related to so much of what we talked about.
