You know how most of my entries are either on a fandom *cough*HIMYM*cough* or how much school sucks? This is that rare entry that's on both.

So... I'm in the middle of revising a 20-page research proposal right now. My topic: fandoms, and their effect on people's identities, psychology, and overall consciousness. As of right now, I have 15 pages of incoherent jumble left over from my first attempt on this subject back in March. I got a 60 out of 100 on the draft. That really sucked hard.

But this time, it's different. Because I actually read my sources and made a pretty outline! Big thanks to [info]darlingchaos for giving this thing a once-over already, btw. =D

A couple of you have expressed interest in reading this sucker when all's said and done. For now, here's the outline to whet your appetites:

Outline!! )

So yeah. I get to spend alllllll day tomorrow working on making this into a coherent... thing. Oh joy. But if anyone has any last-minute suggestions on how to make this thing a little better, I'd be glad to hear them!

I'm ready, Marshall, put a baby inside me! But cut your hair first. )

Okay. So today's been pretty awful. Although for once, I actually made progress on my cinema paper! I wrote the introduction, and I'm about to tackle the first section once this post is done. My goal is to have 5 pages done (which was how much I was supposed to have done yesterday, but whatever). Tomorrow I'm going to aim for 8 more. This thing's due on Thursday, there's no time to fool around!

So this has been my day:
-Got up after like 5 hours of sleep.
-Astronomy exam.
-Then CW. Whatever. More workshop stuff.
-Got stood up at lunch. =(
-Skipped Chorale to work on my paper. Nothing got done.
-Got a call that my dad went to the hospital today!!!!!!!!! 0_0 Thankfully, he's going to be fine. I don't remember exactly what he said the doctors found wrong with him, but it wasn't anything serious. He passed out during breakfast and my mom had to call the ambulance, however. It sounded pretty scary. He was only there for the morning and he was back at work this afternoon, but it was still pretty upsetting news.
-Astronomy lab... I should have stayed longer, but I was afraid of missing HIMYM. Curse you, show.

Which brings us to now, where I have four more pages of a research paper to knock out before bed. I hate the world. That is all.

I really don't care if you don't understand that heading. It all amounts to "I hate Twilight", anyway. Overhyped piece of crap.

I didn't do an Office redux this week because I realized I don't care enough to talk about its plot. I mean, I'm still going to watch. The Office won't go the way of Grey's for me, at least not for a while (I hope). I just won't redux/grade the eps anymore. (For those of you who wondered how I liked this last one... B. Mostly because of the stupid Mad Man screwing up my Jim/Pam. Never fear, though: I'll still do HIMYM, and Lost when it comes back (Jan. 21!!). Possibly, depending on how much I like it, Dollhouse (Feb 13... my birthday! And Desperation Day.) will get reduxed as well, once it comes out.

OK, so I just got into Pushing Daisies a few weeks ago, and it's already practically past the brink of cancellation!! That's why Chuck (see icon!) is hiding her face in fear. Like me. Freakin' ABC. This and the Grey's thing has made me mad at it. I mean, I'd never give up on the network entirely. (It's still got Lost.) I don't think I'd ever give up on one network because I didn't like one (or two) decisions it made. Because really, they've all made some really crappy decisions. 12 procedural dramas, CBS? Really? NBC, you renewed Knight Rider? Fox, you... still run American Idol when the past three years have sucked? And CW, you... exist. Oh, and cancelled Gilmore Girls AND Veronica Mars. But they've all had one show I've enjoyed too. I don't always watch the shows I once enjoyed (hello, Smallville! Still on the air, I see?), but I won't quit a network entirely. That's just ridiculous nonsense. Much like the past 3 seasons of Grey's Anatomy.

In conclusion, I might be down to only 2 shows soon. Oh wait, Top Chef's coming back! So three. And back up to 5 by this February. Phew.

I registered for classes yesterday, but I couldn't get into the WT comedy class since it was already full. =( Luckily, I got everything else I wanted/needed to take! Which is good. My 2.5 year schedule is too carefully planned to let a registration matter screw it all up.

My cinema paper got pushed back to Thursday! Meaning I get 2 extra days to write it (yay!) and I might not have to pull a 72-hour writing extravaganza, like I was afraid I'd have to. My goal is to have 5 pages written by Sunday. So far, I haven't read all the source material yet. This'll go AWESOME.

Other things to do this weekend:
-Chorale concert tonight! This, too, will go AWESOME. =P
-Not touch my short story. I got good feedback but realized it has tons of plotholes (luckily, my head has the solutions to all the plotholes). But I can't write it because of my cinema paper.
-Stay away from LJ and the TWoP forums.
-Astronomy Second Life project? I hope not.
-Make the bulletin board that was due YESTERDAY!!!!!! Crap.
-More CW short stories. As always.
-Buy PD DVDs? Because I kind of want to see the first season now. But I have no time to watch it. Hmm. Dilemma.
-Finish watching Buffy season 4 NO! Bad Phoenix! *shocky collar*
-Watch "The Pineapple Incident"? ...Only if you're having a bad day. Oh, I will be. Well, okay then.
-Duty on Sunday!
-Church.
-Burn Twilight in effigy. Possibly while at church.

Seriously. I don't know how sitcom writers do it. I guess this must be why there are so many mediocre comedies out there and so many common storylines that every sitcom ever has done: everyone's copying everyone else, because writing comedy is too hard to do on your own.

I'm only saying this because I was saying in the last entry that I wanted to write a comedic short story, but I'm finding out that it's impossible. So I'm (reluctantly) ditching the idea. Still keeping some funnier stuff in, I think, like banter between characters or whatever. But it's going to be an angstfest towards the end. If all goes to plan. Nothing's actually written yet, of course; it's still percolating in my head. (Is that the best word? Fermenting? Ripening? Stewing? Now I'm hungry.) But once I get it all worked out in my head, it's all going to come out at once, and I'll be on fiyah.

But speaking of comedy, I'm hoping to take a class on it during winter term. Hopefully, that will make it easier for me to write said funny things without sounding like a crackhead. It's the plot that, for me, ends up making comedy writing most difficult. Dialogue is hard too, but once you get the characters down it's not too bad.

LJ keeps killing my internet. It's annoying. Maybe God is sending me a message to get off my frickin' computer.

I went bowling last night. I bowled a 25. Be impressed with my incompetence.

I finally watched the movie I'm basing my 20-page research paper on for cinema. Guys, Birth of a Nation is the most racist movie I've ever seen. It's also one of the dullest. I almost fell asleep like 5 times, but then I reminded myself to wake up because it's a silent movie and if your eyes aren't open, you're going to miss everything. Except for "Dixie" playing 20 times. And "O Christmas Tree" 3 times, when there's not a single Christmas scene in the entire 3-hour thing. Anyway, the movie's all about the KKK saving the war-ravaged South from the black people. And it's... just awful. No explicit violence, of course, since it was made in like 1915, but the implications the premise had were all just disgusting. Because every black character in the movie was either a rapist, a rabble-rouser, or a servant of the white characters. The members of the KKK, meanwhile, are always riding around saving the women from the blacks, accompanied by heroic music. Talk about your revisionist history. Which, coincidentally, this movie might be one of the first actual examples of. I can't talk about this movie any more right now, because I'm just going to be incoherent and angry-sounding.

Whatever. I need to wash this out of my brain with some Buffy (since I finally went and got season 4!). At least the characters talk in that. And don't want to lynch everything. ...Just stab things. Which is different. Somehow.

Hooray for being home on break!!!

Sadly, it doesn't feel too much like a break. I have 7 (that's right, 7) books to read over the next few days FOR THE SAME CLASS. And then two others for other classes. Luckily, I don't think I have a lot of writing to do over this break - unless I want to start on my 20-page research paper. A-hyeah right! But still: I'd like to be able to actually take a break from school, during my breaks from school.

Also, I feel like my mom is scrutinizing me while I'm here: you know, seeing if I'm still losing weight, and stuff. Also, today we were talking about voting (which I'm still not convinced I'm going to do) and she tried to convert me from my apparently Communist, definitely apathetic ways to Republicanism. And while I might be leaning toward McCain anyway because he's adorkable and Obama is kind of phony and pretentious, I'd rather not have my parents proselytize me to their political ideology. Anyway, she was kind of mad I skipped out on seeing Palin. It's not my fault she came on the worst possible day for me, or that I had no interest in seeing her outside of "OMG it's a celebrity".

It's official: I'm kind of sick. My nose is all stuffy and my throat is super sore and clogged. It's wonderful (/sarcasm). I need to stop being sick and be awesome instead. =)

OK, I'm getting bummed out. So I'm going to take a cue from [info]dozmuffinxc and list all the positive things going on in my life now:
-I got an A on my creative writing midterm!
-And in Chorale!
-And an A- in drugs!
-Being home is always nice. I never realize just how much I miss everyone until I come home.
-I was able to spend the entire day at home. In a QUIET house. Such a rare occurence!
-I went to the mall. Today.
-At aforementioned mall, I found that elusive little black dress, which was the first one I tried on! And then I found cute shoes to go with it, which were the second ones I tried on. Shopping's never that easy!
-I made my mom laugh. It's been a long time since I made someone laugh using only my words.
-My sister made delicious friendship bread. (Have you heard about this stuff? It's like a chain letter, but with quick bread. Which is hilariously and deliciously awesome.)
-I saw a sneak peek of the upcoming HIMYM episode and it looks like it's going to be awesome! I'm going to force my sister to watch it with me. XD 2 more days!!!
-I FINALLY finished reading the Judy Garland bio, after a solid six weeks trying to get through it. And man, is her life depressing. I'm never going to be able to watch The Wizard of Oz the same way. Oh right, positive things. Um... I'm glad I'm not her.
-Because I have a cold, I finally have an opportunity to say, "My nose is just overflowing with awesome and I had to get some of it out."

That's it. Peace out, hombre(s)!
