I've noticed that over the past few months I've been writing quite a bit of stuff... again... so I've decided to finally put it all in one place: all the new stuff, and even all the old ffnet garbage from infinity ago.

This... is that place. )

Wow. That's a lot of... procrastination. I've done a lot more HIMYM stuff than I thought, too.

So I need to do a proper start-of-semester blog at some point, but my brain won't let me. It's been a tiring, stressful week, and next week isn't looking a whole lot better. But I wanted to do a quick post to get y'all's feedback on something.

So in 7 days (OMG!) I'm turning 21, and I'll be having my first drink. My parents are not big drinkers, nor are my friends; and my only experience with alcohol is Communion wine and champagne, both of which I think are pretty gross (especially champagne. Ewwww). So, I'm asking you all for advice on what you think my first official drink should be.

One thing: if it's something with chunks of real fruit in it, I'm gonna draw the line. Because I haven't had fruit since I was two years old, and I'm certainly not going to start now.

Anyway, ideas would rock hard! =)

Well, today was a bust. I sat around reading fandom secrets all night and didn't do ANYTHING I set out to this morning. Though I at least remembered to eat before 4 pm. Yay? Oh, and we have like 5 inches of icy snow on the ground now, which makes me happy, even though it also makes me not want to go outside ever again. At least the view from my window is pretty. *shallow*

Anyway, have a meme.

Comment and I'll pick three of your fandoms and post the answers to your journal and so on and so forth.

Mega spoilers for Dollhouse: Epitaph 2!!! )

Today was pretty uneventful, other than me dangerously lowering my blood sugar by not eating until 4:30 pm and being generally dehydrated. But then I ate and drank a lot of water, so I'm feeling better, if a little tired. Oh, and my laptop was being kind of glitchy today, so I gave him (I call my computer Daniel after Daniel Faraday, so it's a him) a day off in the hopes of giving it a rest. So far, he seems to be doing all right. But anyway, I spent the day in a computer lab looking for more internships. I'm making a list of all the places I'm applying, one of which is America's Most Wanted. Yep, laugh it up.

Oh, and speaking of Daniel Faraday, 3 DAYS TO LOST!!!!

Oh, you know what? Let me talk about Supernatural, since I've thought of doing my lame little recaps for new episodes of that...

So today was going great until AUUUUUGH STRESS ATTACK!!!! )

So, there's that. But before that, today was pretty good. Really good, in fact. I did nothing all morning, went to lunch where I was the only person in the dining hall and managed to walk out with a bunch of free cookies (which they WRAPPED IN PLASTIC FOR ME because they didn't want them to go to waste), and then I did nothing but watch a couple episodes of Angel in the afternoon.

And THEN, I checked my grades on Blackboard and saw I'd gotten a 98/100 on my Misfits paper, and my professor thinks it's worthy of being PUBLISHED! In a JOURNAL!! SQUEEEEEEEEEEE!!! So yeah, I think she and I are going to work on making that happen sometime in the spring. I'm still waiting to hear back from her (she's busy grading everyone else's papers at the moment), but I'd also like to know if she thinks an expansion of this project would be a viable thesis paper. I've been thinking a lot lately about the direction I might want to take that project, and at the moment I'm leaning more toward big scholarly analytical paper, rather than some kind of creative work. Because honestly, I don't think creativity has ever been my strong point.

At ANY rate, so THAT'S exciting! Um, what else... my mood theme is making me feel slightly better. As did my chocolate croissant. Oh right, I was going to talk more about Angel!

So I'm dead tired right now, and seriously about to pass out, but I just finished my final paper for my female superheroes class, talking about the portrayal of the female characters in Misfits and how they are ultimately more disempowered than any of the male characters. There are a bunch of citations in here that I just don't feel like taking out, so deal with it. Also, this paper ended up being more than twice as long as it needed to be. Yay me. Anyway, enjoy my pretentious smrtnes!

So res life told me today that I'm being put on probation for the spring semester, since I performed so poorly in the fall. I mean, I already knew that I sucked, but it's still discouraging to be told that by your organization and have that reinforced. At any rate, now they're putting together this performance improvement plan that I'm going to have to adhere to in the spring, which sucks. This whole job sucks, as a matter of fact. Why did I agree to do this for a second year, again? Everything so far's been one giant suckfest.

Anyway, moving on. I have a meme!

So thus ends my three-day weekend. Not a whole lot was accomplished, to be honest. Though I did watch, like, a full season of Angel, ADD'd the crap out of the Golden Globes, started a new scarf, and went to the movies today. OK, so maybe I did get a lot done. By my standards, at least.

More Angel thoughts )

Oh, and today I went to see Up in the Air, aka the movie I whined about wanting to see like 10 times in my blog last night. It was pretty good, I thought, though not exactly my taste in movies, because it wasn't very flashy and nothing exploded. =P It was pretty grown-up and thinky, which is definitely a change from the movies I've been watching lately. But in a good way! And Spoilers for the last 10 minutes ) Anyway, the young girl, Anna Kendrick (who is apparently in Twilight as the normal girl with the boobs who wants to go prom dress shopping), was also really, really good. Her character was adorable and naive yet somehow much, much wiser than George Clooney. Who just made me really sad. Anyway, a good movie all around, and I thought it deserved all the nominations it got for the Globes.

Let's see, what else. HIMYM was pretty good tonight, even if I could see every single plot twist in the A-plot coming from a mile away. At least they didn't kill Lily and Marshall's relationship for another generalization on coupledom (the whole reacher/settler thing), right? Right. Oh, and did anyone catch that new show, Life Unexpected? I watched it because it got good reviews from EW (and because I thought it looked like nouveau-Gilmore, so I was like "score!"). Anyway, it was actually pretty good! I'm going to tune in next week to see what happens next, and because I need some chick-flickness in my life. I've also downloaded Human Target, Chi McBride's new show, but I have yet to watch it. I'm avoiding reviews for now because I don't want my opinion of it tainted beforehand, but I'm excited to finally sit down and watch it.

Did I mention my excitement yet that Neil might be on the episode of Glee Joss is going to direct? Because *SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE*!!!!!!!!!!

I'm done. For now. Let me round out tonight's issue of "Phoenix Rambles On About Random Crap Forever" with a meme I stole from [info]turquoisetumult!

Golden Globes night, so that means it’s time for another rambly, nonsensical liveblog from meeeee. I already know there will be a couple gaps in this, since the powers of hell are working against me and so I’m on duty tonight. Hopefully, I won’t miss anything I really care about.

(Oh, and I put reactions to a lot of the commercials too. Just because I can. So any nonsequiturs about shows like Parenthood and The Office stem from that.)

Stop trying to make Nine happen, film industry. It is never going to happen. )

Well, that was fun. And by "fun," I mean "three hours of my life I'll never get back". Now to watch my ninth episode of Angel of the day. For those of you keeping score at home, I just started season 3 today. Yay!! I must say, the show’s grown on me. But more on that later. I just wrote 2700 nonsensical words about nothing, so I’m going to shut up now, before I get sick of the sound of my own voice.

So today was actually a really good day! I mean, I didn't eat until 3 pm, but other than that, a good day. =) Friends and I went out to the mall, and we made a big stop in Barnes and Noble, where - joy of joys! - they were having a sale in the DVD section, a buy-two-get-the-third-free special. So I got season 1 of Gilmore Girls, which I have been CRAVING for a few weeks now; and I also got Veronica Mars season 3, thus completing my VM collection! And then, as my third DVD, I got the movie Up, which I hadn't seen since it was in theaters. My friends and I watched it tonight and I sobbed like a baby during the first ten minutes. Not just crying... I actually sobbed. GOD, I love Carl/Ellie. &hearts

And then I went to a couple other stores and got Godiva chocolates that were 70% off, and the Dr. Horrible calendar that was half off!! All in all, a very successful shopping trip, other than the fact that I went out there with no intention to get anything. But I'm happy with the stuff I bought, so there.

Because everyone knows cracky crossovers are srs bsns. ;)

Your result for The Fan Fiction Personality Test...

The True Fan

OOC is blasphemy, canon is everything.

Once you fall in love with a movie, book or TV series, you are loyal like an old dog. You take fanfiction quite serious and use it as a substitute after the canon ran out.

You are probably a walking dictionary of your favourite fandom and you are picky about what you write and read. The closer to the "real thing" fanfiction is, the more you like it.

You rather explore a character in all depth, see new sides and learn more about them than creating new characters or mix up the situations they are in.

Take The Fan Fiction Personality Test at OkCupid

Even though this doesn't describe most of what I write, strictly speaking, it does describe what I most enjoy reading. I love seeing new sides of characters of having their feelings explored in a depth that canon just doesn't allow for sometimes. And I'm totally a "walking dictionary" for my fandoms, so they got that right. =P

All right, official not-as-emo blog time now. Ahem.

So yesterday I came back to school, yay (my family was starting to drive me crazy, as they are wont to do), and today was the first day of winter term classes. My class, called "Wonder Women," is pretty much a nerdy feminist's wet dream, and it actually looks like there won't be a ton of work involved, which is awesome. And the topic is one I'm really interested in, because I think studies of pop culture in general are fascinating, and since this is about female superheroes like Wonder Woman and Buffy and the freaking POWERPUFF GIRLS, this is seriously going to be the bestest class since Humanities and Love back in freshman year. Which is the highest compliment I can offer any class. I'll let you all know how it's going as we get farther in the semester.

Today was also mega-productive, at least in my opinion. I went to the gym for the first time since freaking OCTOBER (or September??), and then I spent the rest of the morning watching TV. And the afternoon as well! Let me detail my daily schedule for winter term for you all:

8 am - Get up.
9 am - Gym, then shower.
10 am - Supernatural (which they just started showing in syndication, luckily enough! Today I got to see Cory Monteith get ripped to shreds. Again.)
11 am - Angel (I have the DVDs for the first 4 seasons, and now's the first time I had enough time to watch any.)
12 pm - Lunch. (Because I need to be reminded to eat sometimes, as most of you know.)
1:30 - 4:30 - Awesomest class ever! &hearts &hearts &hearts
5 pm - Gilmore Girls (also in syndication, because I decided I need to start rewatching it. I only wish they were in season 1 right now too, not the rather lame season 6.)

And then round out the day with dinner, homework, and more Angel. I'm already about halfway through the first season, and I started watching yesterday, so I'll probably be done by... Saturday. (I keed, I keed.) I'll talk more about Angel and what I think about it later, because now I'm deciding to do a really long meme to look back on the past year!

Happy 2010, everyone!! I'm still meaning to do one of those New Year's memes going around, or at least come up with a New Year's resolution or twelve, but in the meantime, what better way to ring in the new decade than with some good old-fashioned angsty fic in a fandom only a few of you care about?
